  • Mark Buehrle - SP - CHW: Buehrle won't have his... Mar 11, 3:11PM

Buehrle won't have his second start of spring training until next Monday as the club seeks to keep him rested before the regular season begins. Buehrle made his first start on March 5 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, allowing an unearned run on three hits with two strikeouts over two innings.

  • Matt Wieters - C - BAL: Wieters was the center... Mar 11, 3:10PM

Wieters was the center of attention when he reported to spring training last year. This year, everything has been much quieter. To Wieters, it's a welcome change, although he became the first Oriole featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated since 1996. ``It's a great honor,'' he said. ``It'll pretty neat to be able to look at three or four years from now.'' The switch-hitting catcher is primed for a big season with the Baltimore Orioles, ready to assume a bigger role for the struggling franchise. Manager Dave Trembley wants him to catch 130 to 140 games this year, and Wieters is all for it. The 6-foot-5 slugger got off to a slow start in the majors but managed to hit .288 with nine homers and 43 RBIs in 96 games.

  • Brandon Webb - SP - ARI: Webb to open season on... Mar 11, 2:47PM

Diamondbacks manager A.J. Hinch said there's an increasing chance that Brandon Webb (shoulder) will begin the season on the disabled list. Webb has reached what Hinch called a "plateau" in his comeback from August shoulder surgery. He has only played catch since saying he felt "stagnant" last week. Obviously the clock is working against Webb at this point and fantasy owners should draft accordingly.

  • Brian Giles - RF - LAD: Giles says the pain in... Mar 11, 2:42PM

Giles says the pain in his arthritic right knee is getting worse, and the 39-year-old outfielder informed the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday that he will retire. Giles is a career .291 hitter with 287 home runs and 1,078 RBI in 1,847 games. The two-time All-Star also played for the San Diego Padres, Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland, calling his trip to the World Series with the Indians in 1997 the highlight of his 15 major-league seasons.

  • Dioner Navarro - C - TB: Navarro has left thumb... Mar 11, 2:38PM

Dioner Navarro was diagnosed with a left thumb contusion. Navarro left Thursday's game against the Blue Jays after being plunked in the left hand by an errant pickoff throw. It's possible he'll go for X-rays.

  • Ryan Tucker - SP - FLA: Marlins option RHP... Mar 11, 2:34PM

Marlins optioned RHP Ryan Tucker to Triple-A New Orleans. Part of Florida's first cuts of the spring, Tucker allowed two runs over two innings of exhibition action. The 23-year-old recently revealed that he is suffering from Raynaud's disease -- a condition that causes the hands to feel numb in response to cold conditions or stress. The former 2005 first-round pick of the club will likely spend the 2010 season in the minors.

  • Desmond Jennings - CF - TB: Jennings (wrist) done... Mar 11, 2:25PM

Desmond Jennings (wrist) will likely miss the rest of the Grapefruit League schedule. Jennings sprained his left wrist against the Pirates on Monday and will wear a splint for the next five to seven days. Rays manager Joe Maddon says the prospect outfielder will be eased back into action from there in preparation for the minor league season. We just have to get him well -- getting him back to Triple-A and ready to go," Maddon said. "Because here's a guy who can help us at some point in the season -- there's no doubt in my mind -- and I believe from what I'm seeing he can be ready [for the Major Leagues] relatively quick." Jennings, 23, was recently named the organization's No. 1 prospect by Baseball America.
